I am still alive

I'm sorry I haven't been a very good blog citizen the last two weeks.  It started because I was busy...this single parent gig sucks at the Holidays.  And then it just felt okay to ignore the computer for the most part.  But I've been around.  And I have a few things to post about.  Today's topic seems to be a popular one lately...New Year's being about changes and resolutions.

Heather at Oh My Stinkin Heck has removed her blog.  I'm not going to say that it was a surprise...it was a surprise that she was removing it all together, but I've felt that blogging was becoming a chore for her lately.  I'm glad that she was able to make the right decision for her, but, wow, will I miss her blog.

Several other people have posted in the last few days about cutting down on screen time.  I signed up for Blog 365 in 2008, and I think I almost managed to make it.  I'm not that crazy this year.  That year was helpful, it helped me really think about my blog.  But I know I need to be able to not post, and it be okay.

I'm also going to admit something here...I spend way too much time online at work.  It's sort of become like an addiction, and I have to stop it.  That is my one resolution...it's not a New Year's one...I made it before the Holidays.  I just knew that I wouldn't actually be starting it until after my Holiday vacation, and so tomorrow, it begins.

I have lots of other topics to right about...how were our Holidays, what I've read and watched, rearranging and mild remodeling of our house.  Be patient dear reader, it will come.  I swear.

Home at last

My babies are home. YAY! They are tired, but they both had a great time. After dinner out with their mama and mammaw, they are showering and heading to bed. And may I add that those two things are being looked at with great glee. Hubby has to work, so they won't see him until either tomorrow or Sunday. That bites, but it is what it is. Tomorrow we are off to the local Peach Festival to enjoy Free Peach Ice Cream. YUM.

ahh, the real vacation

We are doing very little today. I've made breakfast, and threatened to make them all go back to bed already. Later, I'll take PB to work with her sheep. Other than that, we're just going to veg around the house. I see us catching up on the Wii.

Vacation flash backs

I owe you vacation stories. I'm working on it, I swear. I have several, and they're fading, so I will get them up soon.

Tonight, We're just going to enjoy being home. Today was our staff meeting at work, which is a cookout that I'm in charge of. It's a well oiled machine now, but dang it's a lot of work. I'm tired.

Whale tales

UROlive is our hostess this week and she has a whale of a task for us.

Hey, we are starting a new month and will be celebrating our Day of Independence soon in the US so let’s make the next FM a fun time. I would like to hear about your *whopper* of a fishing story. Yes, you heard it correctly whether it is fictional or non fictional I want to hear a fishing story from you. An example would be if you catch a minnow and tell it that you caught a swordfish (exaggeration is the operative word here). Did you hear me say show your photo(s)? Of course you did – be creative.

Saturday was our last day at the beach. Here in Delaware, you can buy a surf fishing tag that allows you to drive your 4 wheel drive vehicle up on the beach and park right there at the water's edge. The only catch is that one person in the vehicle must be actively surf fishing the entire time. So my hubby dutifully throws out a few lines while we are there. It makes the draggin of stuff so much easier :) We've done this several times before, and I don't remember anyone ever really catching anything. I really was beginning to believe that surf fishing was sort of like snipe hunting. But Saturday, I was proven wrong. The kids (and hubby) were digging up sand crabs, and hubby decided to try one out as bait. A few minutes later, he caught a little dogfish. By the time we packed up, he had caught quite a few, although none were large enough. That didn't matter to the kids, though. They loved reeling in those huge fishing poles, and the thrill of the catch.

This isn't one of the ones we caught Saturday. Those are still safely on the camera. This one is from another day, and is a fish tale for a later post.

This is what my husband wants to be...

When he grows up. A shriner with a mini chopper. Cause they're way cooler than the cars.

Happy Fourth of July

I am in dial up hell this week, so I have posts saved on my laptop to share when I get home. In the meantime, I'm hoping this will go. Hope you all had a spectacular day.

Timing

Since the dial up here is so bad, I'm just going to post a pic each day of our adventure. I'll have plenty to write about next week. This was from yesterday.

We have arrived.

Wow, there was a lot of stuff to pack, and we forgot some important stuff. At least we're close enough to get back if need be. Today we're off to play in low tide. Laters!

Vacation, Day 1

Today is our first day of vacation. We haven't done much, laundry and cleaning and preparing. Why does it always seem like so much left to do the day before you go? We aren't in any hurry to get there tomorrow, as a matter of fact we can't get there until the afternoon, but it just still seems like a lot.

I'll be posting a lot of pics only this week...we're looking forward to a very easy week.

Vacation

YAY!!!! Although I have a military function tomorrow, I am on vacation starting tonight. It was a long day getting everything done before I left, but all in all I felt I got it all in. I've sent the boy off with relatives, Bug is off to visit her mother for the summer, and PB is camping with girl scouts. Woot! I'm off to cuddle with DDS. Night all!

Fun Monday - Vacation memories

Our host this week is RDHmom. I love the subject this week!

Vacations...this is the time of year when most of us go on vacations. Show us and/or tell us about your favorite vacation - where you went, what you did, etc. Pictures would be great. Let's all take a trip around a the world via our FM friends!!

My favorite vacation...that would be really tough. Several years ago, we went on a cruise, and that was really fun. Another year we went amusement park hopping and camping. Fun. Last year, we did the day trip and hang out at home thing. Fun.

The best one? I think it would have to have been 5 years ago. We took the kids to Disney. We drove from here to Florida (a two day drive) with our children convinced we weren't going to Disney. Seriously. They thought we were driving to Orlando, staying in Orlando, and not going to Disney. They believed this until the morning after we arrived. My husband and I dress them, and while videotaping them, we explain that we're going to Disney. Bug says "yup, in a few months." PB gets it right away. We had to convince Bug we were telling the truth.

That first day, we met all the characters and then...we rode one ride before the monsoon of all monsoons came in. They closed the Small World Ride due to tornadoes in the area. For 5 hours, the only thing you could do was go in shops and eat. So we decided to call it a day and go back to the hotel. But the shuttle? It didn't come. Nor did the next one. Finally, a bus from that company going elsewhere called and got a van to take us back. We were so wet...I've been in showers and been dryer. But my girls, they were troopers (Monster was a baby, and he's a water baby anyway, so he was having a blast). They laughed and splashed and said that the important thing was they could say they've been to Disney World now.

We managed to get a few good days of weather. My hubby and I expected the rain showers every day, but this was non seasonal downpours for hours on end. It sucked. But we still talk about that trip today.

Busy Busy Busy

Today is my grandmother's 84th birthday, and then this afternoon the fam and I will travel to Washington DC to spend the night. Tomorrow we will hit Walter Reed first thing in the morning for the last appt for a month, and then we will embark on an educational family field trip. We have plans to hit a few monuments, maybe a Smithsonian or two, the National Zoo, who knows. I know that I have lots of work to do both at home and at work, but I'm going to take this time while I can.

Friday

Another foray into Washington, DC. I'm so glad I chose to stop living in this area. Home briefly, then off to a spaghetti dinner at church, a nap, and then resting up for working outside tomorrow.
